Oatmeal might not be the tastiest cereal in the world, but oat is extremely good for your health. Besides nourishing your body, this not so adorable cereal could even make its way into skin care recipes. The mild abrasive property of oatmeal makes it a suitable agent for exfoliating even the most sensitive skin. A simple oatmeal face mask made by blending oatmeal with water could sooth skin irritation. It could be used as a home remedy for treating insect bites and bee stings. Even irritation and itching caused by poison ivy could be healed with oatmeal paste.
Irrespective of your skin type, you can use oatmeal and honey mask for soothing and softening your skin. To make this facial mask, mix half a cup of uncooked oatmeal with a tablespoon of honey. You can even add half a cup of unsweetened homemade yogurt to the facial mask. Apply the paste on your face and neck for about 15 to 20 minutes and rinse with cool water.
Oatmeal mask for acne
Oatmeal mask can also give you relief from the nagging acne problems. Oatmeal absorbs the excess oil from the skin. Its mild abrasive property exfoliates the skin, removing dead cells accumulating on the skin surface and clogging the skin pores. You can add few drops of tea tree essential oil to the oatmeal face mask. Tea tree oil kills the harmful microorganisms present on the surface of your skin, preventing acne and pimple flare-ups. To fade the discoloration and blemishes on the skin, add two teaspoons of lemon, orange or tomato juice to the oatmeal facial mask.
Oatmeal mask for dry skin
For reducing the dryness of the skin, you can make a facial mask by blending one cup of oatmeal with mashed banana and milk or yogurt.
Oatmeal mask for rosacea
Oatmeal is even effective for treating rosacea. To heal this skin disorder, mix half a cup of finely ground oatmeal with a teaspoon of honey and a tablespoon of yogurt. Puree four medium sized tomatoes and add the tomato paste to the face mask. Apply the mask on the affected area for about ten minutes and rinse off with water.
