Lawn is made by using a cultivated species of grass and it makes a beautiful carpet in front of your house. Instead of paying a gardener for caring your lawn you can do this task by yourself. Trimming a lawn at weekly intervals will cut down a major part of your effort and it also provides you a beautiful lawn.

1.    Watering the Lawn

The most important thing the grasses require is water and most of the lawns prefer to get water at least twice a week. Water your lawn to a height of one inch and this will help in wetting the soil up to a depth of eight inch. This will also aid the grass to form deep roots instead of the shallow roots in case of daily watering. Deep roots will make them less susceptible to drought. Try to water your lawn early in the morning and avoid the evenings because the grass will remain wet after this for the entire night and this will increase the chances of getting diseases.

2.    Fertilizer Application

Lawn prefers to get more nitrogen based fertilizers as nitrogen will impart the bright green color to the lawn and also promotes new growth. At the same they require potassium fertilizers as they give them the strength to fight against the diseases and phosphorous fertilizer for promoting good root growth. Apply fertilizers once in 2 months.

3.    Mowing

Mowing means trimming the height of leaf blades and it is recommended to trim only 1/3 of the leaf blade at a time. You can leave the trimmed leaf blade on the lawn it self as it will decay and supplement almost 25 % of the fertilizer requirement. In order to avoid the repeated mowing you can mow length wise and side ways alternately.

4.  Raking

Rake your lawn at least once in a year because the soil becomes compact over time and will be devoid of oxygen. This will impair the efficiency of grass roots to absorb nutrients and water from the soil. Also remove the fallen leaves and other debris from the lawn.

4.    Weeding

Weeds will always accompany with lawn and you have to remove the weeds along with their roots. You can use narrow and sharp blades for this purpose. Weeding frequency has to be increased in rainy season as more weeds will grow at this time. While weeding you have to remove the thatch which is a mixture of living and dead nodes, roots, crowns, and stems of the grass.
