Remedy For Foot Odor

About 250,000 sweat glands are present on our feet. If you keep your feet covered for a long time, the sweat secreted by the sweat glands fails to evaporate. The moist environment promotes bacterial and fungal growth.

While feeding on the dead skin cells, these microorganisms will produce waste products with foul odor. Foot odor usually occurs in people prone to excessive perspiration.

Foot odor remedy

Despite the embarrassment caused by smelly feet, foot odor is not a serious condition. It could be easily reduced with simple folk remedies. However, you should seek medical help if a skin infection is associated with the foul odor.

Foot odor could be prevented by keeping the feet dry. Wash your feet with a medicated soap. After taking a shower, dry your feet completely with a soft towel. Brush little talcum powder on your feet. Anti-perspirant powders or alum could absorb the moisture and reduce foot odor. Always wear clean cotton socks.

By promoting air circulation, cotton helps the skin of your feet to breath. Cotton even soaks the excess moisture from your feet, keeping them dry for a long time. Avoid wearing tight fitted shoes and boots that obstruct proper ventilation. Try to wear leather shoes. Shoes made from artificial materials such as plastic might constrict air circulation, worsening your foot odor.

To reduce foot odor, apply apple cider vinegar or white vinegar diluted with water to your feet. Vinegar could even prevent bacterial and fungal growth. Add a cup of vinegar to a tub filled with water and soak your feet in the tub. This foot bath could effectively reduce foot odor. You can even use lemon juice to eliminate foot odor.

You can treat smelly feet with tea. Tannic acid present in tea could cover foul foot odor. Boil two tablespoons of tealeaves in water for about 10 to 15 minutes. Add the tea to a tub containing lukewarm water and soak your feet for about ten minutes.

To prevent bacterial and fungal growth, rub little tea tree oil on your feet. Remember to mix almond, sunflower or olive oil with tea tree oil before applying it to the skin.
