A very delicate skin which is very sensitive to allergies is called sensitive skin. People with such skin have a thin layer of skin with very fine pores. Hence they will be very sensitive to cold, heat, chemicals, wind, sun etc and they may develop rashes, red color, scales, blotches and even irritation on the skin. The degree of reaction shown by different people will be different for different products. The discomfort and the sensitivity may increase along with the age.
Causes of a Sensitive Skin
Oxidative stress happening on the skin results in sensitivity and this oxidative stress is caused by certain factors like chemicals in shampoo, perfume, other beauty products, exposure to UV rays, cold wind, pesticides, insecticides etc. These reactive and highly toxic substances in turn cause stress on the skin and thus damage the skin. Loss of moisture from the skin, pets, new clothes, inhalation of pollen from flowers etc also leads to allergies. Certain food like shell fish, nuts, eggs, milk, strawberry etc may also cause damage.
