Intense competition from rival phone makers and dip in cell phone demand, following global recession, has considerably eroded Nokia’s profits in the last quarter.
Nonetheless, Nokia wants to maintain its hegemony in the cell phone sector by emphasizing on both feature and smartphones. Although, most smartphones display the same features and qualities, Nokia hopes to attract customers by dropping the prices of its upcoming handsets. Following the new marketing mantra of this Finnish company, Nokia 5230 will be a touchscreen smartphone with an affordable price tag.
Nokia 5230 features
According to Nokia, 5230 is designed primarily for those busy people, who have nothing other than their cell phones to listen to music, snap pictures, record videos and share life with their online friends on the go. Just like Nokia’s Xpress Music handset, Nokia 5230 can also be dubbed as another Nokia music centric phone. Users can download songs from the Nokia Music Store. In selected markets, Nokia 5230 will be preloaded with Comes With Music service. The battery of Nokia 5230 has enough juice to allow 33 hours of music playback on a single charge. Ovi Store will be preinstalled in the handset, allowing users to access their favorite apps and games directly from the home screen of Nokia 5230. The Media Bar of Nokia 5230 has been designed to enable users to locate their favorite apps and media instantly.
To ease communication with your closest contacts, the Contacts Bar of the phone displays thumbnail images of up to twenty contacts. The navigation feature of the integrated A-GPS of the handset will be further enhanced with Ovi Maps, which will offer aerial and 3D images of landmarks and terrain maps covering more than 200 cities.
Nokia 5230 will run on quad band GSM and dual band WCDMA networks. It will run on the Symbian OS platform. The TFT display of the phone supports images of 360 x 640-pixel resolutions. The touch sensitive display is fitted with accelerometer and proximity sensor. The 2-megapixel camera of Nokia 5230 has 3x zoom and video recording and calling capabilities. The 70MB internal memory of the phone could be expanded with microSD memory card.
Nokia 5230 will cost $215 and will be available from the fourth quarter.
