Natural Headache Remedies

Headache Remedies Most of us have experienced occasional headaches. Popping an over-the-counter pain relief pill is perhaps the easiest way to get rid of the headache. Many of us are unaware that certain home remedies could also give us instant relief from headaches. These time-honored remedies could provide instant relief without any adverse side effect.

Cold compress
Stress, anxiety, anger, depression and even food allergies could cause tension headache. An easy way to reduce the pain is to apply a cold compress or ice pack to the back of the neck.

Essential oils
Certain essential oils are used in aromatherapy for treating headache. Peppermint essential oil is extensively used for treating headache. Soak a cloth in cold water and add three to four drops of peppermint oil to the damp cloth. Apply this cold compress to the back of your neck and shoulder for about ten to fifteen minutes. Peppermint oil helps to relax your muscles and reduces the tension headache. You can also massage the back of your neck and your forehead with few drops of peppermint oil. Do not apply pure essential oil directly on your skin. Mix the essential oil with carrier oil such as apricot, olive or almond oil before using it. Lavender, eucalyptus, sandalwood, rosemary and jasmine essential oils are also effective in reducing headache. Ginger oil can be used when you are experiencing nausea along with headache. Inhaling the fragrance of these essential oils can provide relief from occasional headache. Often taking a bath in warm water to which few drops of the essential oil is added could provide relief from headache.

Exposure to cold air could cause headache. Applying cinnamon paste on your temples could provide relief from headache.

Your headache can be cured by taking a footbath. Footbath is particularly beneficial for curing headache occurring from rise in blood pressure. Soak your feet in a tub filled with hot water. The temperature of the water should be around 95 to 115 degree Fahrenheit. Soak your feet in the water for about fifteen minutes or until the water becomes lukewarm. Now remove your feet from the water, dry it, put on cotton or woolen socks and lie down for 10 to 15 minutes. This will help to heal your headache
