Male Breast Cancer
From the name breast cancer most of the people gets the feeling of the type of cancer that affects the females. But rarely men are also affected with breast cancer. Women are hundred times more prone to breast cancer than men. Males also have breast tissues just behind their nipple but they remains non functional. In normal case the testosterones produced by the male’s testes will suppress the growth of the breast tissues and the milk glands but still males have these structures along with small amount of connective tissues and fat. The uncontrolled growth of these breast tissues causes breast cancer in men. Males between ages of 60 to 70 are more likely to get breast cancer.
Causes of Breast Cancer in Men
The excess of estrogen in the male blood results in breast cancer. If a person has a family history of breast cancer then he is likely to get the disease. This is because he may inherit the genes responsible for breast cancer from his family. A person subjected to chronic liver disease is also prone to develop more estrogen in his body and thus in a risk of getting breast cancer.
Risk Factors for Breast Cancer
A person subjected to an increased exposure of radiation at any point of his life is at higher risk of getting breast cancer. Obesity will also increase the chances for the production of more estrogen and thus causes cancer. Excessive intake of alcohol, food containing more of saturated fatty acid also leads to breast cancer. Another factor that contributes to breast cancer is the Klinfelters Syndrome in which the person will have an extra X chromosome in his genetic make up and this makes them more prone to breast cancer development.
Symptoms of Breast Cancer
The most commonly found symptoms of breast cancer include the formation of lumps in the armpit and in the breast. At times there will be a discharge from the nipple which may be either a clear liquid or a blood stained one. Certain people may show a swelling or dimples appearance of the breast. While in others the nipple may turn towards inward position and thus creates an irregular shape to the breast. Red colored rashes, scaly or dry appearance on the breast are also seen in some people.
