Living With Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Before 35, nearly one in five adults is affected by the irritable bowel syndrome. This chronic gastrointestinal problem causes severe discomfort, which could adversely affect your daily activities. The symptoms of the disease would recur from time to time.



Managing irritable bowel syndrome
People suffering from irritable bowel syndrome could benefit from modification of their regular diet. You should avoid foods that increase the discomfort. It has been seen that incidence of irritable bowel syndrome could be minimized by consuming dietary fibers. Although, dietary fibers could reduce constipation, people with narrow colons might not benefit from fiber intake. Probiotic products such as yogurt could reduce the symptoms of this condition.

The beneficial bacteria present in these products could augment the normal activity of the gut. Sometimes milk and dairy products could worsen the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome, especially in people suffering from deficiency of the lactase enzyme. However, often people with lactose intolerance could tolerate yogurt. People with irritable bowel syndrome should have five to six small meals throughout the day.




Their diet should be rich in carbohydrates, vegetables and fruits and low in fat and dairy products. They should avoid carbonated drinks. The symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome could be reduced through stress management. Acupuncture is believed to provide relief from this condition.
