Living Room Colors

2 March, 2010 No Comments

When we think about home decorating, the first thing that comes to our mind is the color of the room. It is not only the color of the walls that is a matter of concern, but the color of the furniture and upholstery too bothers us.Living room is one of the most important areas in your house, where you spend a significant amount of time with family and friends. The colors in your living room should enliven the space, creating a vibrant and comfortable ambiance compatible with the mood of the room.

Wall color

Walls painted with warm colors will make your living room appear bright and cozy. If you have a large living room, you can opt for warm colors such as red, yellow and orange. However, for smaller living areas you should choose lighter shades of warm colors. Cooler or neutral shades are also suitable for smaller spaces. They will make your room appear spacious. Lighter shades of cool and neutral colors, such as blue, green, purple, beige and white, are suitable for painting the wall of small living areas.

Ceiling color

The color of the ceiling should be lighter than the color of the walls. For living rooms with high ceiling, medium to darker shades are suitable. For rooms with lower ceiling always stick to lighter color shades. White or neutral color shades are suitable for all types of living rooms, irrespective of their height and size.

Colors combination

Painting all the walls of your living room with a single color might create a dull or monotonous appearance. By splashing different shades of colors on different parts of the room, you can make your room appear interesting. Paint one wall of the room with a bright shade of warm or cool color. Making this wall the focal point of your living room, you could plan the color scheme for the rest of the room.

To create a sense of continuity, few accessories or cushions in the room should sport the color of the focal wall. The wall on which you are hanging paintings or artworks could have a neutral color shade.
