Juices for Healthy Heart

pomegranate-juice Through various studies, researchers have found that certain fruit juices are particularly beneficial for the heart. The antioxidant properties of plant chemicals, present in fruit juices, stimulate cardiovascular function by prevent clogging of arteries, which is primarily responsible for most heart diseases.

Pomegranate juice
If you want to prevent heart diseases, drink one glass of pomegranate juice every day. According to a University of California study, drinking 8.5oz of pomegranate juice daily, for at least three months could significantly improve heart function of individuals suffering from ischemic coronary heart disease. Researchers further concluded that regular consumption of pomegranate juice could even prevent development of ischemia. The antioxidant property of pomegranate juice derived from plant chemicals, such as anthocyanins, polyphenols and tannins, could perhaps improve cardiovascular health by lowering the level of bad cholesterol.

Apple juice
Apple juice is also beneficial for the heart. According to a study conducted by University of California Davis School of Medicine, very moderate consumption of apple juice is capable of reducing the risk of heart diseases within a small time span. Apple juice prevents plague formation on the coronary artery walls. The phytochemicals present in apple juice obstructs oxidation of bad cholesterol or LDL, which is responsible for thickening of the coronary arteries.

Grape juice
If red wine can be good for the heart, grape juices can also be heart friendly. According to studies, red and purple grape juices are especially good for the heart. Flavonoids present in grape juices have strong antioxidant properties. They could reduce clogging of coronary arteries by raising the level of HDL or good cholesterol, and preventing oxidation of LDL or bad cholesterol.

Orange juice
Researchers have found that hesperidin, a type of flavonoid present in orange juice, is extremely good for the heart. This phytochemical protects the lining of the heart and lowers the risk of endothelial dysfunction, which increases the risk of heart attacks. Orange juice is especially beneficial for individuals suffering from high blood pressure and diabetes, who have greater risk of endothelial dysfunction.

For best results, consider consuming fresh fruit juices. While buying packaged fruit juices, select juices without any additives, such as sugar and preservatives.
