Guava is a tropical fruit and is considered as one among the best fruits. It is accepted globally by almost all people. This is because guava is a sodium free, low calorie and low fat fruit and having a taste ranging between strawberry and pear. It is rich in vitamins like vitamin C, B and A. The nutrients of the guava includes potassium, iron, calcium, phosphorus, carbohydrate and protein. Guava consists of lot of fibers also.
Guava consists of lots of seeds and some people avoid this fruit just because of its seeds. If you are one among them but still like the fruit and flavor then you can enjoy the delicious taste by making jelly.
1.Â Â Â For making guava jelly you need ripe fruits but it will be better to discard the over ripe fruits. The pectin content which is responsible for making jelly will be less in over ripe fruits when compared to mature fruits. Also avoid the damaged and the insect attacked ones.Â You can also choose the not fully ripened fruits.
2.Â Â Â You have to wash the fruits thoroughly to remove the pesticide residues and debris. Cut the fruits in to medium sized pieces and immerse them in water taken in a vessel.
3.Â Â Â Boil the contents in high flame and then reduce the flame and allow the fruits to get soften and the process takes about 20 minutes.
4.Â Â Â Take the vessel from the stove and keep aside for about 25 minutes for cooling. Then strain the mixture through a muslin cloth or jelly bag. With in 10 minutes almost 90 percentage of the juice get drained and the remaining 10 percentage contains most of the essence of the guava. Hence keep it over night for straining. Care should be taken for not to squeeze the bag.
5.Â Â Â Now measure the juice and add three cups of sugar per pint of the juice and keep the mixture on a low flame and stir the contents continuously. Now add the juice of half of a fresh lemon or acid orange and stir the ingredients continuously.
6.Â Â Â When it reaches the setting point the consistency of the contents will be soft globe like. Once it reached the setting point then turns of the stove and stirs them for a little more time.
Now you can fill your crystal clear jelly in to a sterilized bottle and can refrigerate it for months.
