How to Eliminate Hard Water
Depending on your locality you may get hard water at times. Hard water contains minerals like calcium, magnesium, carbonates, sulfates etc. you can use this water for watering the plants and also for drinking as it is high in mineral content. Proper cleaning might not be possible with hard. Here are some tips that may help you to get rid of the hard water.
1.   There will be water conditioning experts in your area. Contact them and know how much hard your water is. They will test your water and will give you detailed information about the contents in the water.
2.   If there are only traces or reasonable amounts of minerals in the water, then purchase a simple water softener which can convert your hard water in to soft water but if there is considerable amounts of iron and other minerals in the water, then you may need a high end water softener and this is costly also.
3.    The water softeners that work on the principal of ion exchange will remove the calcium and magnesium ions present in the water. The water when passing through a container having resin or plastic silver beads coated with good amount of sodium will exchange their calcium and magnesium ions with these sodium ions. The silver beads thus become saturated with magnesium and calcium over a period of time. You have to replace these beads in between with fresh beads or to treat them with strong salt solution to get rid of the magnesium and calcium.
4.   You can also use chemical water softeners for treating the water. The chemical water softeners include washing soda, borax, phosphate compounds etc. the washing soda and borax will join with magnesium and calcium ions and form insoluble white precipitates. Then you have to filter these precipitates and remove them from water with the help of a filter.
The only draw back of these chemicals are that they will increase the alkalinity of the water and is harmful to skin and utensils..
5.   You can also use filters to get rid of the hardness of your water. You can use them in the taps or in the plumping systems. There are different types of filters which act differently and neutralize the ions present in the water. These filters will also help you to keep the toxic materials and bacteria away from water.
