This is because liver is involved in most of the biological processes like filtering and destroying the toxins and finally eliminating it from the body of the dog. You can buy medications from the stores but most them may have side effects. Instead of this you can give medications that are prepared at your home to your dog.
Home Remedies for Liver Damage
Milk thistle is widely used for treating the liver diseases in dogs. Milk thistle contains flavonoid called silymarin which in turn has magical powers to treat the liver damages. Silymarin will protect the liver by supporting and strengthening the liver cells. It nourishes the liver cells and fortifies the liver cell membranes and it also fortifies the defense mechanism and protein synthesis of liver cells.
You can brew the seeds of milk thistle like an infusion or grind the seeds and mix it with your dog’s food. If your dog has severe liver complaints then give him 200 mg milk thistle per ten pound of his weight. If the liver complaints are not much severe then give him 100 mg milk thistle per ten pound of his body weight. However milk thistle should not be administered to a healthy dog as it may suppress your dog’s liver functioning.
Garlic which is having anti-fungal, antibacterial and antiviral properties is found to stimulate the liver. Garlic also helps the body to get rid of the excess toxins with in the body. For a 10 to 15 pound dog you can give half of a fresh garlic clove daily.
Dandelion has the powers to remove the toxins from the body and the roots of which will enhance the bile flow from liver. It also mobilizes the digestive juice flow. The flowers of dandelion are found to have lecithin which in turn can act as pain killer for your dog.
Similarly Alfalfa and vitamins are found to have beneficial effect on the liver.
