Cruising on a holiday is a luxurious way to spend leisure time; but that doesn’t mean you can book a trip and await your dream vacation. The Scout motto ‘Be Prepared’ applies when going on a cruise.
You don’t know what you’ll be facing and you’re better safe than sorry. You can be adventurous while climbing a mountain but going unprepared for a cruise holiday wouldn’t be a good adventure.
Start making the checklist as soon as your cruise is confirmed. Aside from your personal needs, you need to check with the cruise lines about their rules and restrictions – maximum luggage weight, number of bags etc.
Make sure your passport is updated and ready before you depart on the cruise. If any other identification is required, ensure that you are aware of it and keep the same ready to avoid disappointment at the last minute.
All your documents should be preserved in a separate folder and kept with you at all times. To be on the safe side, make copies and keep them at home as well as in the luggage, away from the original.
If you don’t have a passport, apply for one at the earliest. Don’t wait until the last minute, thinking that you’ll get it done easily. Many things could stand in your way; and why spoil your own cruise?
Take care of vitamin ‘M’
You can’t do without money and an adequate amount of it while cruising. Besides shopping, unforeseen circumstances may necessitate spending money too.
Keep your money safe; avoid carrying too much cash – checks, credit cards etc may come in handy. Store your money in separate places in the luggage. This way if you lose one bag, you won’t be entirely stranded.
The other ‘M’
Medication — if you regularly take medicines, ensure that you have a sufficient supply for the entire duration of the cruise and extra as well. Just in case you can’t get back on time, you’ll be thankful for the additional reserve.
Prepare well and enjoy your cruise on the seas!
