Older people often wake up frequently throughout the night. To prevent depression, insomnia should be treated. According to statistics, nearly 80 percent of depressive individuals suffer from insomnia.

About 10 to 15 percent of older adults who are unable to overcome grief caused by the death of a loved one become chronically depressed. The younger members of the family should help the older members overcome grief.

Seniors can beat loneliness by making new friends, joining social organizations and learning new activities. Always carry pictures of your loved ones with you.
