Sauces Different Types of Sauces

Sauces add flavor and taste to many dishes especially sandwiches. Among the different sauces, white sauce remains as the basic sauce and is also called as mother sauce. Different flavors can be added to this white sauce to make different types of sauces. The following steps may help you t make white sauce and many other sauces too.



White Sauce

Take two tablespoons of butter in a heavy sauce pan and melt it. Then add two tablespoons of flour, ¼ teaspoon salt and a pinch of powdered white pepper. Whisk the entire contents till it becomes soft and smooth and cook it for about two minutes. This may help you to avoid the raw taste of the flour.



Slowly add one cup of milk to this mixture with constant stirring and cook for another two minutes or till the sauce gets thickened. Now your sauce is ready to use. Store this sauce in a refrigerator to make it cool and can use it for making sandwiches and also in other dishes.

Cheese Sauce




Take a cup of white sauce and to this add half to ¾ cup of shredded cheddar cheese. Heat this mixture till the cheese gets melted very well. Take care to stir the entire mixture constantly.

Mustard Sauce

Try to get Dijon mustard or make it by black or brown mustard, unfermented grape juice, white wine and with various seasonings. Take a cup of white sauce and to this add one tablespoon of Dijon mustard and cook well with constant stirring. This makes your mustard sauce.

Mornay Sauce

To one cup of white sauce add ¼ cup of Parmesan cheese or shredded Swiss cheese. You can also add a combination of both cheeses along with a pinch of nutmeg powder. Heat the entire contents with continuous stirring.

Brown Sauce

It is almost similar to that of white sauce. Take two tablespoon melted butter and to this add two tablespoon flour, ¼ teaspoon salt and a pinch of grounded white pepper. Mix them well and cook for two minutes. Then add one cup of beef broth to this mixture and cook them well till the sauce gets thickened..
