Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage is a massage technique that is focused on the deeper layers of connective tissues and muscles. Through deep finger pressure and gentle strokes it helps you to get relief from tensions and pain in the muscles. Deep tissue massage is concentrated mainly on contracted and tensed areas like sore shoulders, low back tightness, stiff neck etc.

Most of the time the therapist use strokes across the grain of the muscles rather  than going along with the grain of the muscles. The speed of the strokes used during deep tissue massages are slow and with increased pressure. Hence the strokes will be of long durations. Deep tissue massage is a good remedy for limited mobility, chronic pain, repetitive strain injury, recovery from injury, fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis pain etc.

Benefits of Deep Tissue Massage

When the muscles got stressed there may be adhesion in muscles, ligaments and tendons. This may block the supply of nutrients and oxygen to the tissues and thus leads to inflammation, limited movement and pain .

Inflammation in turn may lead to the development of toxins with in the muscle tissues. Deep tissue massage aids in loosening the muscle tissues and there by helps to release the toxins accumulated in the tissues. This in turn leads to the normal circulation of blood and thus supply enough oxygen and nutrients to the tissues. In order to ward off these toxins the person getting deep tissue massage must drink plenty of water.

Deep tissue massage helps to improve the alignment of the muscles and the body. This improvement in the patient’s posture itself is sufficient to get rid of many health problems. Deep tissue massages is also good for improving the feeling and mood of the patient.

During the deep tissue massage most of the people feel pain and discomfort. If the discomfort and pain becomes unbearable then the patient has to inform this to the therapist. Most of the people experience soreness after having this massage but it may  subside in a day or two. It will be ideal if the patient takes deep breath while doing the massage as it helps to oxygenate the tissues better.

Precautions to be Taken
