Allergies are the unusually reaction of the immune system of the body against some substances in the environment. The allergic reaction may vary from red and itchy skin, running nose to most severe and life threatening respiratory problems too. The allergic reaction starts all of a sudden when the body is triggered by some allergens. The common substances that cause allergy are given below.

Dust Mites

It is not the dust but the dust mites that lives in dust causes the allergy. Dust mites are those microscopic organisms found in the dust. They prefer humid areas and want to feed on the dead cells of pets and human beings present in the house. In order to avoid dust allergy you need to keep your house clean and neat. Avoid things like carpet as that may collect lot of dust. Cover your pillows, mattresses etc using hypoallergenic covers and wash your bed sheets, curtains etc once in a week in hot water.


Pollen allergy is a seasonal allergic reaction that occurs mainly during the spring when most of the trees, plants, grasses etc produce pollen. However there are trees that shed pollen in fall and winter too and so you may get pollen allergy in this seasons also. It may cause hay fever and you may have running nose, watery eyes, sneezing, itching etc. Try to remain indoor in windy days. Also avoid hanging clothes outdoor during this season.


Certain foods like milk, nuts, wheat, egg, fish, shell fish, soy etc may cause allergies in some people. The affected person may have swelling around the yes and mouth. He may develop itching, diarrhea, vomiting and red patches or hives on the body. Even it may cause life threatening symptoms and need to be treated immediately. You have to identify the foods that cause allergies to you and avoid such foods.


Some people will be allergic to wards the skin and saliva of pets. This is because the saliva of animals contains a protein and similarly the oil glands of the skin may also produce proteins and  cause allergies. In such case avoid contact with animals and keep your room as a pet free zone.

There are a lot of other things like insect bite, latex, medications, mold etc that cause allergies. Different people will be allergic to different substances and the range of reaction may also be different. Try to avoid contact with the substances that causes allergy on you.
