Chocolate-Filled Oatmeal Bars
Chocolate filled oatmeal bar on each serving gives 200 calories, 4.5 gram saturated fat, 30 milligram cholesterol, 26 gram carbohydrates and three grams protein.
Tips to Make the Dough
Take a large bowl and to this add one cup softened margarine or butter and two cups of brown sugar. Beat the sugar and butter together to a uniform mixture. Then add two eggs and one teaspoon vanilla essence to the butter sugar mixture and beat them well till it becomes fluffy. If you prefer, you can add half teaspoon instant coffee powder as well to this mixture. Now you can add three cups of rolled quick cooking oats, two and a half cups of flour, one teaspoon baking soda, one teaspoon salt and one cup of finely chopped walnuts in another bowl and stir them well.
Add the oats mixture to the butter mixture with constant stirring. Then you will get thick dough and take two cups of this dough and keep it aside. Take the remaining dough and press it at the bottom of a un-greased jelly roll pan of about 15 Â½ inch by 10 Â½ inch.
Take a saucepan and melt half cup of margarine or butter in it on low flame. Then mix cocoa powder of about 23 cup and Â¼ cup of sugar with the butter. Then add one 14 ounce can of sweetened condensed milk and cook the entire content with constant stirring till it gives a thick and smooth mixture. Take it out of the flame add one and a half teaspoon of vanilla essence.
Use this chocolate mixture to spread over the dough in the jelly roll pan. Then crumble the remaining two cups of dough over the chocolate filling.
Sprinkle the remaining half cup walnut pieces over the dough. Pre heat the oven and bake this mixture for about 25 minutes or till the top of the chocolate filled oat bar becomes golden brown. Then the chocolate will remain very soft. So cool the oat bar first and then cut it in to bars.
