Toxic shock syndrome is caused by the bacteria called streptococcus species. These bacteria produce toxins and the inflammatory response of the body towards these toxins causes toxic shock syndrome. This is a very rare disease but is a serious life threatening disease.



Causes of Toxin Shock Syndrome

These bacteria are seen associated with the use of tampons. Women who have menstrual period use tampons and it creates a warm and moist place for the bacteria to grow. The use of birth control methods and contraceptive sponge also paves the way for the infection. Similarly it is also seen in kids and males also. When people have wounds related to surgery or other injuries then these bacteria may enter in to the body and cause toxic shock. Any of the streptococcus infections like septicemia a kind of blood infection, pneumonia, osteomyelitis, streptococcus throat infection etc may also cause toxic shock syndrome. Even the skin wounds at the time of child birth and chicken pox blisters can leads to this disease. These bacteria on entering the body produces toxins which on entering in to the blood stream can over stimulate your immune system. This causes the symptoms of toxic shock syndrome.

Symptoms of Toxic Shock Syndrome



During the initial stage of infection the infected people may show mild symptoms and it includes fever, chills, muscle pain, weakness etc. There may be rashes all over the body and it will be of red color. The rashes may be flat and when pressed it turns in to white. Sometimes there may be redness on the tongue, eyes and lips. After fourteen or eighteen days there may be skin peeling especially on the bottom of the feet and on the palms. Headache, sore throat, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, lightheadedness, cough, fainting may also exist with this disease. Low blood pressure, confusions, seizures etc may also accompany the toxic shock syndrome. It affects almost all internal organs like lungs, kidney, liver, pancreas etc.

When you have wounds you must keep it clean and must check the development of any symptoms like fever, rashes, nausea etc. While using tampons at the time periods you must use the best variety so as to prevent your chances of getting this disease.
