Burittos are flour tortillas folded around a filling. In beef burritos the filling will be beef. Tortillas are made up of wheat flour or corm meal and are thin unleavened pancake. For making beef burritos you need eight flour tortillas of about ten inches diameter.
Tips to Make the Fillings
Take a frying pan and to this add one tablespoon vegetable oil and heat it in medium heat. Then add three cloves of minced garlic and one medium sized finely chopped onion. SautÃ© the onion till it becomes soft and it takes almost three minutes. Slowly add four pounds of shredded beef and cook it for about 6 to 7 minutes or till the beef gets cooked. When the beef becomes brown in color add half teaspoon cumin powder and two teaspoon chili powder. Cook the entire contents for about two minutes. Now you can add half cup of red salsa and Â¼ cup of finely chopped cilantro. Remove the frying pan from heat and keep it aside closed to keep the warmness.
Instead of adding these entire ingredient to beef you can add all these ingredients in to pinto beans and cook them well. Then you have to mash the beans and make a smooth paste. Or you will get refried beans from the market which is the dried beans cooked and mashed and then fried in lard with various seasonings.Â If you are adding these ingredients to pinto beans then while filling the tortillas you can add shredded beef cooked with only salt.
Filling the Tortillas
Now heat the tortillas in a skillet or in a microwave to make it soft and place the tortillas on a leveled surface. Add almost Â¼ cup of beef to the center of each tortilla. Then place two teaspoon cooked and mashed beans to the beef. Top the beef and beans with Â¼ cup of shredded lettuce, bits of olive fruits and two teaspoon of chopped tomatoes. Now add two teaspoon of shredded cheddar cheese to the top of the vegetables.
Now you have to fold one end of the tortilla to about inch length on top of the fillings. Then fold the right side of the tortilla and then the left side by overlapping the first fold. Serve your burritos with some salsa.
